How We Finally Fixed Beta-Alanine Gummies

If you’ve ever tried to make a beta-alanine gummy, you probably gave up after the first batch. I don’t blame you. This ingredient is stubborn. It tingles, it sweats, it wrecks your gel structure. Most contract manufacturers won’t even touch it. But at KorNutra, we love a good challenge.

After months of trial-and-error in our own gummy line, we cracked the code. Here’s what we learned-and how we turned beta-alanine gummies from a pipe dream into a stable, delicious reality.

The Three Things Nobody Tells You About Beta-Alanine

1. That Tingling Feeling? You Can Control It

Everyone knows beta-alanine makes your skin tingle. In a gummy, that sensation hits hard and fast because the dose is concentrated in one small chew. Most formulators just pile on flavoring to mask it. That doesn’t work-the tingle cuts right through.

We took a different approach. Instead of masking, we delayed the release. By applying a thin, lipophilic coating to the beta-alanine crystals before mixing them into the gummy slurry, the tingling doesn’t start until the gummy is swallowed. Consumers get the benefit without the prickly mouthfeel. It’s a small change with a huge impact.

2. Beta-Alanine is a Moisture Magnet

Beta-alanine is hygroscopic-it pulls water out of the air and out of your gummy gel. That means sticky, sweaty gummies that clump together in the bag. Standard manufacturing can’t handle that level of water activity disruption.

Our fix was to pre-condition the beta-alanine with a low-moisture binder before adding it to the syrup. We also tweaked the humectant ratio (more glycerin, less sorbitol) to keep the water locked in place during the 24-hour curing process. No more sticky mess.

3. pH Kills Your Gel Strength

Beta-alanine is nearly neutral, but when you dissolve it in hot syrup, it shifts the pH just enough to mess with your gelling agent. If you’re using pectin, the gel won’t set-you get a puddle. If you’re using gelatin, the protein bonds weaken and the gummy tears instead of chews.

We solved this by changing the order of operations. Instead of adding beta-alanine during the cook, we add it after the gel has set, using a cold-blend method right before depositing. The gel stays strong, the texture stays consistent, and every gummy comes out with that perfect chew.

Our Quality Control Goes Beyond the Norm

Standard gummy testing checks moisture, texture, and potency. For beta-alanine, that’s not enough. We added three extra checks to guarantee consistency:

  • Tingle intensity panel: A trained sensory team tastes every new batch and rates the tingling from 0 to 10. We adjust the coating until the sensation is a gentle warmth, not a sharp prickle.
  • Water activity gradient mapping: We measure moisture at the surface, middle, and core of each gummy. A consistent gradient means no sweating or sticking.
  • Release simulation: We mimic chewing and stomach pH to ensure the beta-alanine releases at the right time-fast enough for results, slow enough to avoid overwhelming tingles.

Why Most Manufacturers Won’t Touch This

Beta-alanine gummies are sensitive. Humidity changes, supplier variation, crystal size-all of it affects the final product. Most manufacturers can’t guarantee consistency across lots or seasons. They see the risk and walk away.

We built our entire gummy line to handle challenging ingredients. We store beta-alanine in a climate-controlled room (40% relative humidity, 68°F). We run small-batch trials for every new lot of raw material. It’s not mass-production thinking-it’s precision work, batch by batch.

The KorNutra Difference

We don’t just “make gummies.” We engineer delivery systems. By mastering the tingle, the moisture trap, and the pH sensitivity, we produce beta-alanine gummies that look, taste, and perform exactly as intended-every single time.

If you’ve been told that beta-alanine gummies are too hard to formulate, you haven’t worked with the right partner. Let’s talk.
